Southern Creations family

Southern Creations is a family owned and operated business founded by Donell Hendrix affectionately known by his family, friends, and customers as “D”.  He learned his incredible culinary talents by watching and assisting his mom and grandma cook at a very young age.  By the age of 12, he set his sights on becoming a master cook of traditional Southern style and barbecue foods.

In 1998, “D’s” first food venture was a small hot dog cart servicing downtown Sacramento, CA.  Realizing he was underutilizing his own food preparation skills, he opened a soul food restaurant, The Bayou in Elk Grove, CA.

From 2005 – 2015, Donell owned and operated Simply Southern Food.  It was the first custom built mobile food trailer in Sacramento, CA.  During this period, he with several other mobile food truck vendors established “SACTOMOFO”.  This became the groundbreaking mobile food truck service that gathered to host events in the Greater Sacramento Area.  The first SactoMoFo event Donell launched was his incredible tasting creation the “Corn Cake”.  The slogan asks, “Is it Corn Bread or Is it Cake”?  A question only your taste buds can answer.  Today, many customers still wonder!

Donell gained popularity selling Corn Cake, Jambalaya, and Cajun Rice at the Downtown Sacramento Farmer’s Market every Thursday.  Donell’s latest creation is the mouthwatering prepackaged BBQ and Southern style food trays, which he calls Real Food.  He spent 10 years testing and perfecting the meals and is ready to share them with the world.  He prepares these meals using all fresh ingredients so you will have that “fresh from the pot” experience with convenience.  Now, you can enjoy his delicious food trays anytime and anywhere, just Take It, Heat It, Eat it!

Donell is considered a visionary when it comes to the food business. So with that being said, he believes Southern Creations best describes the delicious items customers loved most over the years!
